High Tech Sabot

Van Munster boat builders have developed and constructed new moulds and commenced production of the Australian Sabot class.
The new Van Munster HT Design has proven to be popular and very fast. This season it has dominated all levels of sailing in both senior and junior classes. A combination of features give the Van Munster HT Sabot a massive advantage over the competition. They are the advanced High Tech construction techniques, a new one piece deck mould with an open workable cockpit combined with the new hull shape.
The Van Munster hull design characteristics that produce the extremely fast Sabot's are:

· Minimum spring and flat run aft
· Minimum beam at chine
· Maximum beam at gunwales
· Sheer straightened to maximum and minimum class tolerances.

The aft sections of the hull and station 2 of the existing design have been optimized during mould construction to further improve performance.

Monocoque deck structure and tooling technology

The Van Munster HT sabot features a one piece "monocoque" deck. The one piece deck structure incorporates the foredeck ( including raked mast step) , front bulkhead, sax boards and gunwals, as well as aft buoyance tank all in one single structure. The new deck structure gives the Van Munster HT Sabot a fresh modern appearance. The monocoque deck structure when combined with the high tech construction techniques sufficiently stiffens the boat to make the outdated thwart unnecessary. The removal of the thwart increases the cockpit ergonomics by allowing easy fore/aft weight trim for seniors and opening the available working cockpit area for Juniors. The centercase structure and main sheet load are now supported by a new structure that dissipates the associated loads to the cockpit floor.

The production moulds are constructed from a low shrink tooling system which are dimensionally stable resulting in the construction of identical boats of the very best quality.
Van Munster boatbuilding employs this tooling system very successfully in the production of its World Championship winning international 505 class sailing dinghy's, 16ft skiffs and 18ft skiffs.
In order to accurately and consistently produce the highest quality boats the production moulds constructed by Van Munster boatbuilding feature additional reinforcement framing to prevent twisting and limit movement of moulds during production ensuring all boats are as close to identical shape as possible.

High- tech construction

The new HT- Sabots are constructed from a high-tech epoxy laminate.
During the construction process components are vacuum bagged and post cured in our oven to achieve maximum laminate performance.
The complex sandwich structure features wet preg quadran E-glass laminated in SP Systems premium grade epoxy laminating resin's either side of high density closed cell “core-cell” foam.
The cockpit area has maximum allowable laminate thickness for maximum stiffness. The core density has also been increased in this area for improved impact resistance from crew.
This construction technique will consistently produce fast boats of the very best quality.

All Van Munster HT- Sabots are available in a white hull and deck. The 2007 Boats are now available with a greater range of optional interior colours. They are light blue, light grey, dark blue, pink, or (red extra) non-skid cockpit interior. The boats will be delivered standard with chain plates, self bailer, inspection hatch covers and foot strap attachment points.
